Spam Filtering
We are pleased to inform you of two free new services we will be offering the first week of April 2002. We have received multiple complaints from customers who receive spam email through their geetel.net email account, so we will be offering spam filtering. We will also be scanning every email for viruses before they reach your computer. Spam is a term loosely used to describe any piece of email that is unsolicited, unwanted, and/or unexpected. The content of the email usually involves a commercial solicitation, offensive/annoying/nuisance content, or multiple mailings of the same message. The software we are putting in will allow us to extract approximately 85% of spam email before it reaches your inbox on your computer. The emails we extract will be placed in your account on our server for your viewing if you so desire. Currently, we have a webmail program on our web page (http://www.geetel.net/webmail) where emails can be seen, read, sent, and deleted. In the webmail program there is a section called "junkmail" where the spam email will reside for 30 days before being automatically deleted by our server. Each customer will have the opportunity to view those emails from the junkmail folder through the new webmail program. Instructions for the retreival of junkmail messages can be found here. There is a possibility that emails you wish to receive will be classified as spam and thus be placed the in junkmail folder. The spam filtering service will be placed on every email account geetel has unless we receive a request from you telling us you do not want it. If you desire NOT to have the service, please email your request to
office@geetel.net
Anti-Virus The Virus Scan software has already been implemented and it scans all emails before they reach your computer. We are not guaranteeing that this is a complete solution to virus protection on your system. We do recommend that you still have a virus scan program installed on your computer and keep it updated regularly. Our virus system will not catch a virus that is downloaded from the Internet or sent to your PC through an alternate route such as instant messengers or online chat. If our system catches a virus in an email, you will receive a confirmation email that we deleted the email. An example of messages you might receive can be found at here. The virus protection will be turned on all accounts with geetel.
