Windows 98 Geetel Internet Setup

CONFIGURING TCP/IP
1) Left click the Windows Start button, then highlight Settings, then left click Control Panel.
2) Double-left-click the Network icon.
3) Double-left-click on TCP/IP.
4) Left click OK on the information screen
5) You should see 6 tabs.
6) Left click on the WINS Configuration tab and left click a dot in disable WINS Resolutions.
7) Left click on the DNS Configuration tab and left click a dot in Enable DNS.
8) In the host field type your username in lower case letters.
9) In the domain field type in geetel.net in lower case letters
10) In the DNS Server Search Order field type in the following numbers: 208.15.165.10 then left click add at the right.  The number will drop to the box below.
11) Again, in the DNS Server Search Order field type in the following numbers: 204.120.165.37 then left click add at the right.
12) For Domain Suffix Search Order type in geetel.net and then left click add at the right.  It will drop to the box below.
13) Left click OK out of TCP/IP, then left click OK out of Network.
14) Your computer may prompt you to insert your Windows 98 disk, do so and make sure you select the appropriate drive, if not
15) Your computer will confirm a settings change and ask you to restart your computer
16) Left click YES
17) After the computer restarts, close out of Control Panel

MAKING THE CONNECTION
1) Click the Windows Start button, then highlight Programs, then highlight accessories and highlight communications, then left click on Dial-up Networking.
2) If this is the first time in this area you will get a wizard to setup a Dial-up Networking Icon.  If a wizard does not appear, double-left-click on the Make New Connection icon.
3) The first screen tells you what it is going to do, left click next.
4) The screen is asking for a name, type geetel in the place of My Connection, then left click next.
5) Enter the telephone number: 2585600 (alternative number: 2582000)
6) Left click next
7) Left click finish.
8) Then right click on the geetel icon.
9) Then left click properties
10) Take the check mark out of "Use area code and Dialing Properties" by left clicking
11) Left click OK
12) Right click on the geetel icon again
13) Then left click create shortcut. (You will get a message saying Windows cannot create a shortcut here, would you like to have it placed on the desktop instead? Click yes)
14) Close out of Dial up Networking

Now you are ready to get on the Internet.  Just double-left-click the “Shortcut to geetel” icon, which is on your desktop, and make sure your username and password are correct and in lower case letters, then left click connect.  Once connected you may get an online status saying you are connected, and an icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen of two computers linked together.  Then double-left-click the Internet Explorer icon to browse the Internet. To disconnect from the Internet, double-left-click the two little computers and left click disconnect.

GEETEL.NET EMAIL SETUP

This section will set up your email. You will decide which one to select by the type of email program you have on your computer. Most customers have the program Outlook Express on their computer…
Please select the set of instructions that refer to your given email program
 

Microsoft Outlook Express Setup (if your Internet Explorer icon on your desktop is a blue e, then this is you)

1. Double-left-click on Outlook Express Icon, located on your desktop or go to mail, read mail in your Internet Explorer
2. Left-click on Tools
Left click Accounts
3. Left-click on Mail Tab
4. If you already have a Mail Account shown start below with step A, if you do not have one shown, then skip to step # 5
A. Double-left-click on the Account
Mail Account is the Name for Account (whatever you wish)
Name is your name (Any name you want, capital letters OK)
Email Address: username@geetel.net (lower case letters only)
Reply Address: username@geetel.net (lower case letters only)
Ensure the box is checked to include this account when receiving mail or sychronizing
B. Left-click on the Servers Tab
Incoming Mail server is a POP3 server
Incoming Mail (POP3): pop3.geetel.net (lower case letters only)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.geetel.net (lower case letters only)
C. Under Incoming Mail Server Section
 Account Name: your username (lower case letters only)
 Password: your password (lower case letters only)
D. Left-click OK
E. Left click close in the lower right hand corner
F. Left click Tools at the top
G. Left click options
H. Left click on the general tab
I. The first check box says, When starting, go directly to my 'inbox' folder, put a check in this box by left clicking
J. Left click OK at the bottom
K. You have now configured your email to geetel (You can skip step #5, you are done setting up your email).

5. If you don’t have a Mail account showing,
A. Left-click ADD and left-click Mail
B. Display Name is your Name (Any name you want, capital letters OK)
C. Left click next
D. Email Address:  username@geetel.net (lower case letters only)
E. Note: If you have a Blank Dot that says "I'd like to sign up for a new account from:" Skip this, do not put a dot in here
F. Left click next
G. Incoming Mail Server is a POP3 server
Incoming Mail Server: pop3.geetel.net (lower case letters only)
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.geetel.net (lower case letters only)
H. Left click next
I. Internet Mail Logon
Account Name: your username (lower case letters only)
Password: your password  (lower case letters only)
J. Left click next
K. Left click finish.
L. Left click close in the lower right hand corner
M. Left click Tools at the top
N. Left click on Options
O. Left click the general tab
P. The first check box says, When starting, go directly to my 'inbox' folder, put a check in this box by left clicking
Q. Left click OK at the bottom
You have now configured Outlook Express
 

Netscape Communicator (Newer version of Netscape, usually 4.x)

1. Left-click on Edit and select Preferences
2. In the left hand column under Category find Mail and Groups
3. Change the + sign to a – sign.
4. Click on Identity
 Name is your name (Non-case Sensitive)
  Email Address is username@geetel.net (lower case letters)
 Reply to Address is the same as email Address  (lower case letters)
5. Under Category Click Server
  Mail Server UserName is your username (lower case letters)
 Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) Server is: smtp.geetel.net (lower case letters)
 Incoming Mail Server (Pop3) is pop3.geetel.net (lower case letters)
 Ensure you have a dot in the choice POP3
Click OK.
